A while back, when this primer was released, I saw several people talking about it and loving it and knew I had to get my hands on it. Primer is something I don't use a lot, but feel I should, but never want to spend money on. However, when I saw this I loved it's price and the pot and how bloody massive it is.
This product is, of course, the Nivea Daily Essentials Express Hydration Primer 50ml which I picked up for £4.99 from the love of my life, Boots. I accidentally picked it up in the dry/sensitive skin combination instead of normal/combination skin which more describes what my skin is like, because I totally didn't read the packaging and didn't realise what I was buying. Moral of the story, always read the fine print. My skin does tend to be quite sensitive though, so I figure I didn't make the worst mess up ever, although I will purchase the normal/combination skin primer when I am next in Boots (which I am sure will be sometime this week. I don't have a problem, honest.)
Wrong skin combination aside, I still really, really love this product. Nivea is one of my most trusted brands, I've used their lip balms and hand creams for years, so I was very excited when I saw they'd released this primer and had high hopes for good things. I haven't been disappointed.
I really like that this primer comes in a pot instead of a tube, it makes application so much easier and there is no wastage as it's easy to get the amount you need. It also means that this will last me for months as you need such a small amount of product to cover your entire face.
There is no pore minimising or smoothing effect from this primer, which is something a lot of primers seem to promise, but for me that doesn't seem such a big issue as I don't have very enlarged pores at the moment anyway. This primer is really moisturising though, to the point where I don't feel the need to use my beloved Liz Earle moisturiser underneath, which makes my morning routine just a little bit quicker. I do love a good two in one product. I did notice a difference in my makeup's staying power during the day, and it creates a lovely base which makes both concealer and foundation application much easier.
The dry/sensitive skin primer contains natural almond oil and calendula extract, and I think the addition of the almond oil is the only thing not doing my skin any favours, as part way through the day I am getting quite shiny, and I'm curious and excited to try out the primer for normal/combination skin which is enriched with vitamins and natural lotus extract instead. But overall, I will still be using this primer on a daily basis.
