The Disappointing Products Post

Beauty products are so subjective, and what works for one person unfortunately might not work for someone else, and this can lead to a very expensive mistake, which is usually very upsetting, especially when you get all excited about a new product and then it ends up not working properly. Research often helps you get a product you will love, but I'm sure we still have products squirreled away that will probably never see the light of day again. I've seen a lot of posts floating around like this recently, and decided to hop on the bandwagon because as much as I love reading about amazing products, I also like to know what doesn't work for people.

Without meaning too, I managed to split these six equally between Maybelline and Rimmel, which I thought was pretty damn impressive. And with that, I shall start with the Maybelline products I have not gotten along with.

First up, the Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin foundation. I got really excited about this, as it promises a flawless base and better looking skin in three weeks. Unfortunately, neither of these two things happened. This is the lightest shade, but I found it still too orange for me (the struggle is so real), and my oily skin very much disagreed with the formula of this foundation. As much as I tried to get along with this, we were never destined to be together, and so this little bottle has been confined to the back of my drawer. So sorry, Maybelline SuperStay.

A very talked about product I just found to be a disappointment is the Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser primer, which did not make my largish pores any less visible. Yet again, my high hopes were dashed. Maybe I just need to learn not to be so hopeful?? I don't like the very siliconey formulation of this product either, it applies nicely but ends up making my skin very shiny very quickly, which is not my best look.

A potential dupe for the Benefit They're Real Push Up Liner, I used Maybelline's Lasting Drama Black Shock eyeliner once, and will probably never use it again. It's got the same angled silicone tip (which I totally forgot to photograph), but unfortunately I found the formula really dry and hard to work with. I also found this with my Benefit Push Up Liner, and I don't know whether I'm just really unlucky, but it does mean I end up with a badly drawn line and black spots all down my cheeks. Again, not a great look.

The Rimmel London Stay Matte pressed powder is very much talked about and loved by loads of people, but recently I've found myself not getting along with it. For years it has been my holy grail go to powder for keeping my skin matte (my preferred look), but as much as I want to still love it, I just can't. I find the first application okay, but then when I apply it again it becomes cakey on my face and looks really obvious, which is a shame and I am very sure other people get along very well with it. Unfortunately I am not one of these people, and have to bid a fond farewell to this powder.

Lastly, the Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquers. I mentioned these a while back in a drugstore/high street lip gloss review, and I still haven't managed to like them. The Apocalip laquers were my first dabble in the liquid lipstick area, and I just haven't gotten along with them. The colour payoff is really intense, the matte version dries to a matte finish, and both are really pretty colours (I believe I have Luna, the more coral summery shade, and Atomic Rose, which is the matte muted pink), but I find the smell to be really chemically and offputting, and the formula just doesn't feel that nice on my lips. I've been reluctant to try any liquid lipsticks after these, but I think I will dabble with the Makeup Revolution dupes of the TooFaced liquid lipsticks, see what I think.

L-R: Rimmel Apocalips Matte Lip Lacquer in Atomic Rose, Apocalips in Luna, Maybelline Lasting Drama Black Shock Eyeliner, Baby Skin primer

Have you had any experience with these products before and fared any better than me? Are there any products that you've found disappointing? Let me know
